Hey everyone, Simon from Body Development Centre here. And today I’ve got a quick video for you that links in to a blog post that I released earlier today. If you want to see that the link is in the description.

For this quick tip though, I wanted to make choosing a diet type to follow a bit easier. Because it can seem like there are a million and one options out there, which often leads to choice paralysis. But don’t fret! It isn’t as bad as it looks! In fact, all dietary approaches more or less fit into three categories. So let’s take a look at those now.

First up is Logging, an approach popularized by the My Fitness Pal app, although the science behind it has existed for much longer.

Essentially the way logging works is you keep a diary of everything you eat and drink. This can be using an app, but it could just as easily be with a pen and paper.

Now although this can work by letting you know exactly how many calories you’ve eaten, as the my fitness pal app does,  the real science behind why it works is that when you write down everything you eat, as you eat it, it makes you more aware of what you’re doing. So it becomes harder to “mindlessly eat”.

The second approach is planning, and any diet that sets out what you’ll eat and when falls into this category. However you could just as easily achieve the same thing by just writing down what you’re going to eat over the next few days. The way it works is by getting you to choose your meals when temptations are low, which results in you planning to eat better foods.

And finally, approach number three, is Pre preparing. Any plan that gives you meals to eat falls into this style of diet, but so would you just batch cooking what you’ll eat over the next few days or so. The way this one works is similar to planing, although it takes it a step further. As now you’re even less likely to go off plan, as you don’t even need to cook when temptations fly up and time becomes restricted.

So there you go. Now you can choose which approach sounds like it will fit into your life the easiest. That will greatly limit down the dietry options you need to choose from, which will hopefully make choosing a diet that much easier!
